Between 7:36 and 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, 11 March 2004, Madrid became the scene of the worst terrorist attack in Spanish history. A jihadist group spread chaos across the stations of Atocha, El Pozo del Tío Raimundo and Santa Eugenia, as well as Calle Téllez. Olga was 19 years old.

José Fragoso Martín was born in the port city of Larache, Morocco. He joined the Civil Guard in 1975. In 1982, he was murdered by the terrorist group ETA while he was serving in the Fiscal Service at the Port of Pasajes, in Guipúzcoa. He was only 32 years old and left behind a widow and four very young children. This is the testimony of Encarnación, one of José’s daughters.

Civil Guard officer Víctor López Palma was injured in the attack carried out by ETA on 24 September 2002 in Leiza, Navarre. The terrorists placed a booby-trapped banner that read: “Guardia Civil, Jo ta bertan hil. Gora ETA” (“Civil Guard, hit him and kill him right there. Long live ETA”). When the officers went to remove it, the terrorists activated, by remote control, a bomb hidden inside a drum. The explosion killed one of the officers, while the rest were injured to varying degrees.
