AVT joins the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism

The Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) joins today in the commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly, which this year marks its eighth edition. We want this day to be a moment of remembrance, of visibility for those who suffered the barbarity of terrorism, and of firm commitment to a society free from impunity.

The theme chosen by the UN for this year, “United by Hope: Collective Action for Victims of Terrorism”, summarizes the essence of our purpose. It calls us to join forces, to ensure that the voices of victims and their families are not silenced but gain visibility through Truth, Memory, Dignity, and Justice.

Today, the AVT recalls that the dignity of victims is non-negotiable, that memory must remain alive, and that justice and truth must prevail. We invite society as a whole, along with institutions and the media, to join this cause by spreading this message and publicly recognizing those who must never be forgotten. Honoring their memory is the best antidote against violence, and only with the shared strength of a just society will we be able to build a future free from terrorism.

Within this framework, we wish to join this collective action by sharing our Testimonies Project.

The AVT Testimonies Project

The AVT’s audiovisual testimony project of victims of terrorism began in early 2014. From the outset, our aim has been to approach victims with closeness, humanity, and respect, allowing not only for the expression of pain but also for the revelation of the courage, bravery, and resilience that lie behind each story.

Through these testimonies, we have sought to bring society closer to the personal experiences of terrorism’s victims, as we believe it is essential to create social awareness. To do so, society needs to know the human reality behind every person or family whose life was shattered.

We seek to uphold remembrance and justice, but we also want these testimonies to delegitimize terrorism and foster social awareness of human rights and the fight against terrorism.

For this reason, on this 8th International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, we are sharing our testimonies, available in English and French translation.
